  • Hi! I'm Caleb.

I work to make ecology more effective by engineering away its bottlenecks.

Right now, I'm building Polli Labs^1. We make hardware & software to automate ecological data collection. Polli reduces per-datum costs by ~1000x.

Check out the real-time activity on my birdfeeders^2. This PolliOS demo is generated by a Polli Swarm (1 Hub + 10 Pods) installed in my backyard.

Cheap, dispersed sensors are the answer to biodiversity's measurement problem. At Polli Labs, we're building the simple, robust product that scientists have been begging for.

Currently, Polli Labs is: me, my meager savings, and my 2 cats.

If you.. - are an angel investor - are interested in co-founding - want Polli in your backyard/study sites - would like to offer sage advice - are passionate about biodiversity .. I'd love to chat:

I'm also looking for work. I'm a jack of all trades, but I am best working on backend. I particularly enjoy building computer vision apps for edge devices.

I'm a strong Python programmer and am experienced with hacking, training, and deploying ML (esp. vision) models.

I'm an OK C++/embedded programmer and am deeply familiar with the ESP32 platform. I'm nice with a soldering iron and have spent 100s of hours building prototype PCBs/devices.

Given Polli, I'm especially looking for part-time/remote positions. However, I'm young, flexible, and running out of cash, so I'm open to a lot of paths, including full-time work. I currently split time between Asheville, NC and Boston, but can relocate anywhere in the US (preferred: SF Bay, Atlanta, Chicago, NYC, Colorado). I'm particularly interested in software engineering roles where I can apply my Physics B.S (esp. defense/hardtech).

My personal site and GitHub are linked below (^3, ^4).

I pride myself on honesty, so some caveats:

    a. I'm a skilled programmer, but only just started (Dec '23) formally studying algorithms and practicing for whiteboard interviews. I probably won't be able to crack your LeetCode medium until Jan/Feb '24.

    b. Polli was developed as an MVP (i.e. very quickly) and was closed-source until Dec '23. I'm gradually overhauling the codebase for maintainability and to better reflect best practices, but if you are reading this then you may encounter hacks or ugly code. These repos will better reflect my skill level as I get around to them, starting with the main PolliOS codebase. ___
