    This is great. Some of us remember when there was a real "phonebook of the internet" because thats what WHOIS was before it became registry management for IP addresses and domain names. I had GM84 (obv created 1984) as a user at UCL-CS and you could get bound copies of all the NIC handles and names and emails from a central registry (probably SRI NIC or something)
