Many years ago I planted several Glory vine cuttings ~6 feet from back wall of house. They now perfectly shade that wall to the roof line in summer then drop the leaves in Fall so winter sun can warm the house. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitis_coignetiae
I've seen a lot of coatings to do this, usually very expensive and require many applied layers. Just a flexible sheet would be so nice, but in the pics it looks more like a tile. I guess that is just for testing right now?
I have been really interested in all the radiative cooling stories that have shown up over the past few years. I wish some good products would show up on the market.
Sometimes I wonder about the idea people have that blue is a "cool" color, because in terms of "color temperature" it's actually hot.
In a sunny day with a perfectly blue sky, when the air isn't particularly hot or humid (say in the desert) and you're in the shade, the blue sky can feel really cool because you are losing heat to it.
