Show HN: Demo.fun – A browser extension for recording beautiful product demos

Hi Hacker News!

I’m super excited and proud to announce the launch of https://www.demo.fun - a Browser Extension for recording and editing web-based product demos.

Product demos are a passion of mine, and demo.fun is a passion project. My goal was to build a product that would effectively help me sell the product itself. Getting the demo of the editor on the front-page of my site was a huge milestone.

If you’ve ever used my main competitor Arcade, you’ll absolutely love demo.fun.

To start, demo.fun offers a non-linear editing environment where you can edit your demos and play them back in real-time without having to switch between editing and preview modes. And that’s where the “fun” comes in. With my app, you can add pan and zoom animations, animated popovers, and synthetic voiceovers and preview them in real-time, fluidly. It’s a magical experience, and I think you’ll all agree when you try. It really is a lot of fun, and I’m super proud of that.

Secondly, theirs is expensive. They have more mouths to feed than I do (and they also have more features right now), so I get it—but it’s still expensive. I can operate my product much cheaper, and it’s bootstrapped, no venture capital.

Both of our apps capture clicks and draw animated graphics over them, but their app seems to have been constructed with the click being the primary event everything else is built around. Their demos, to me, seem more like presentations where clicks demarcate new slides. My app treats clicks like any other events: animations, cuts, zooms, pans, speed ups, etc. That leaves a ton of room for feature expansion.

I have a ton of features in mind and directions I want to go with this. I plan on working on it for the foreseeable future, and just becoming an expert in all aspects of product demonstrations. I love software, I love showing software off, and I can’t think of a better way to spend my time than dogfooding this product to success.

Try it now to see the difference yourself! https://www.demo.fun

Thank you HN!
