I'm a postdoctoral mathematics researcher and professor at Florida State University. I'm looking to leave academia for a job in software engineering, machine learning, data science, or anything where my math skills can be useful.
I have a broad knowledge of math, physics and computer science. I've been programming for most of my life, and regularly use computer experiments in my math work (see examples on my website). These tend to be niche problems, so I often build all algorithms from scratch. I have also worked in the industry a bit before my PhD (building simulation software in C++ and C#).
As a mathematician, I am used to tackling hard problems without established solutions. I enjoy learning new things, and through years of teaching and presenting my research I am also fairly good at communicating complex ideas.
I'm particularly interested in work which has an interesting algorithms or optimization aspect, like high-performance computing, compilers, low-level/embedded programming etc. I also got really interested in machine learning recently, and started reading about and experimenting with it (my math background helps here!). But I'm pretty open-minded, so if you think I could be useful for whatever you're doing, please reach out!

I'm a software engineer with 8 years of experience. In the last 4 years, I've worked as a Data engineer. I have experience as a fullstack engineer as well.
I'm looking to work on a AI project in a company where I can grow professionally. I'm also interested in transitioning to Machine learning engineering.
Hey - my name is Isaac Ballone.
I'm passionate about programming, and I'm quick to learn. Most of my experience is in full-stack development, but my interests span all across the board.
I started in software by maintaining waveform code for military radios. I dug deep into legacy C++ code and closely followed strict specifications. From there, I found my way into B2B ecommerce, serving customers all around the world. Then I planned a break to dedicate myself to my own projects!
I released https://messagehighway.com, an SMS service written in Clojure for organizers to easily communicate with their users. I am becoming more involved in the open source community by sharing my libraries and packages on Github (https://github.com/balloneij). I am most proud of Slouch, which is the first idiomatic Clojure interface to Apache CouchDB :).
I love challenging work, I'm quick to learn, and I thrive working in enthusiastic teams.
If you think we would work well together, please reach out via email! You can find it on my resume.
You can see several technologies in the above list but I personally prefer to work with anything related to the Rust Programming Language. Backend? Blockchain? Compilers? DevOps? Embedded? Mobile? I am totally onboard as long as you have a little bit of Rust involved.
For more information, take a look at my CV (https://c410-f3r.github.io/curriculum.pdf) or my GitHub account (https://github.com/c410-f3r).
I can help you accelerate development and solve difficult problems.
Great communication skills, Startup experience, team leadership, passionate about programming, self starter, OK with freelance/consulting as well as full time work.
I work with a senior React/Node/Django dev who can help if you need more hands on board.

Hello! I'm Luciano, a software developer and engineer that likes to work on high-performance backend systems. I enjoy functional programming (especially in Clojure and using fp-ts in TypeScript) but aim to be a practical functional programmer. I have an undergraduate degree in Chemistry and scientific research experience as a computational chemist as well as an MS in Computer Science. I can do full-stack as well, mostly with HTMX and (recently) LiveWire.
I'm a technical generalist with 10 years experience and a Ph.D in CS focusing on category theory and machine learning. I've worked in a variety of roles both full-time and contract: Full stack developer, data scientist, pentester, and machine learning researcher. Most recently I was awarded a grant to develop a differentiable IR for zero-knowledge machine learning[0].

Currently working as DevOps Engineer. Willing to work as DevOps, backend or DataOps engineer. I have 6+ years of experience as a developer, 4 of those working as DevOps. Built platforms on top of AWS to accelerate and accommodate developer workflows while standardising infrastructure deployment. I have a brief background in data engineering. I am willing to work in an entry level position so I can learn and expand my skillset.
Hi I'm Charles. Good at whatever I am currently interested in. I'm looking for consulting work or just a chat if you're looking for advice.
I'm currently interested in full stack deep learning systems for customized LLM work.
Before that I fully designed large scale distributed AI systems for AI researchers.
Before that I led a team for image analysis in a cancer research company.
Before that, I redesigned their instrument and firmware.
Did a lot of electronics before that.
I'm interested in a wide variety of technical work spanning the range from lab tasks characterizing hardware, hardware development or verification, firmware development, systems software, backend software development, and infrastructure work. I'm hoping to work in industries surrounding climate/energy or other industries where my work would make a positive impact. Shoot me an email if it sounds like I would be a good fit.
I'm looking for a Junior or Intern position to break into IT professionally and build my credentials. If you or anyone you know needs /anything/ technical, be it data-entry or legacy system maintenance, drop a line! I'd be thrilled to have a position where I can leverage my methodical, calloused approach to bug-hunting and exploring technology stacks, developed over thousands of hours in TTY's and Texinfo manuals, or an excuse to learn something new like C++, Rust, or Elixir, but I'm open to anything that can serve as a jumping-off point for utilizing or expanding my skill-set.
Currently working on a set of portfolio projects, including a cgit fork that I'll be self-hosting them on shortly, but they're not quite ready to be publicized and I want to do them justice. Available next time or upon request.
Throughout my career, I have established and enforced coding standards across projects, and I've provided valuable feedback and mentoring to the developers I've managed.
As a trained Agile Scrum Master, I can seamlessly integrate into Agile team environments and contribute effectively from day one. Whether it's launching green field projects or revamping large codebases with minimal understanding, I am adaptable and driven to succeed.
Being a US/Canadian Dual Citizen, I am currently living in Boise, ID, but I am open to remote opportunities. My expertise makes me an ideal candidate for a Software Developer or Team Lead role. If you would like to know more about my qualifications, feel free to reach out to me. I look forward to connecting with you!
If you're a founder trying to build your MVP or a scale an existing product, get in touch via email or the calendar link below.

Hackathon Athlete - SWE and Product Management
Won 23/32 hackathons. 17 wins were with complete strangers. 3 solo wins. Including big wins at Meta, Stanford x2, Yale, and MIT x4. More importantly, 32 hackathons of learning - I've written 18k words of reflection and feedback.
I’m a creative technologist with a strong product sense. Currently, my interests lie in designing augmented forms of information in education, the travel space, and healthcare. I constantly get ideas from identifying needs around me, and engineer systems of intersecting technology to answer at scale. My recent personal projects are towards applications of Generative AI, multi-mediums of content, and Computer Vision.
~3 years industry experience as a Data Engineer/Data Scientist at Australia's largest bank.
Everyone here is some kind of developer! And remember what developers are notoriosly bad at? That's right -- marketing and sales...which is exactly what I can help you with. Because no matter how good your product is if you don't know who your audience is and how to market it to them.
Remember what Gary Halbert said to his students if they were to compete with his hypothetical hot-dog stand, "I'll give you every advantage you ask for -- better hot-dogs, better prices, whatever...as long as I can get only one advantage. I want a starving crowd!"
Every week I stumble upon websites of software companies who are just as good as their more famous competitors (or even better), but their marketing sucks, and that's why they never reach the hockey-stick growth phase.
Want some help with that? Send me an email today.
Cheers, Filip Stanojevic -- Copywriter, Email Marketer, Digital Marketer
Have a great day!

I've been leading small teams for the last eight years, focusing on developer enabling work such as process management, devops, software architecture, and coaching.
I'm very passionate in particular about functional programming, and I'm hoping to coach teams when it comes to the cross-over between functional programming and software architecture - something a lot of developers who are new to FP struggle with.
Although I have been involved in a huge variety of software types, I'm particularly well-experienced when it comes to real-time, offline-first web-applications and real-time data processing.
I'm looking for (ideally) part-time (up to 28h) freelancing opportunities.

Hi! I'm a motivated software engineer with 2 years of experience. I've been a contractor at a major pharma company, building up tooling around our internal scientific database and doing some data analysis on the science side while I was there. Later, I was with a smaller fintech company and built out the VS Code language support for an internal scripting/templating language—this was all done in OCaml.
I'd love to work on software whose target audience is other developers. I'm very interested in programming languages, compilers, OS/systems programming, databases, and back-end work in general, but happy to stretch to front-end or (if a position calls for it) software eng/data analysis that's closer to the natural sciences.

About me:
I worked as a Software Engineer at a Sydney based Fintech startup called Upstreet for 2.5 years where I was the primary frontend developer. During my time at Upstreet, I led the frontend development of Reward Hub, a multi-tenant Next.js app, written in TypeScript, that acted as a portal for organisations to manage their internal employee rewards program. I also worked on our consumer facing share rewards platform including both the React frontend and Node.js backend.
I graduated from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia in 2021 with a Bachelor of Engineering, majoring in Software Engineering. I like learning new technologies and I recently learnt Astro and rebuilt my portfolio site using it because Astro is great for building content-driven websites. I also moved to the UK earlier this year while working remotely in my last role.
I have helped numerous companies with contract capture, bid writing, federal competitive analytics, and pricing agreements with over $108M in career wins.
the most common challenges I’ve seen are a lack of:
- Streamlined procedures around Contract Capture, - Outreach to Contracting Officers, - Access to the best deals (oftentimes requiring Pricing Agreements).
After working nearly 10 years in the industry I have developed a holistic offering to government contracting. Including automations and LLM’s across scraping RFX’s, filtering for scope, and developing a base proposal. These workflows and automations will allow me to submit multiple projects a week with complete autonomy after initial integrations.
Next Steps: Let’s set up a call, where I can share my screen and show you the tools I’ve developed to expand your marketing funnel and win more public contracts.
For over a decade, I've dedicated myself to the same company, managing the complete life cycle of numerous projects from inception to deployment , consistently ensuring optimal performance and user experience . Working solo has given me a broad perspective, but I'm now keen to join a team where I can focus on a specific role. Collaborating with and learning from others will undoubtedly fast-track my professional growth .
Lately, I've been learning about Svelte , Astro , NestJS , and Rust . I'd really like to use them in real work. I look forward to leveraging both my technical and analytical skills in new, challenging projects .
I'm not inclined to engage in industries that harm the environment , jeopardize people's health , or are ethically dubious. I am committed to making positive contributions to the world through my work .
2013-2018: Founding engineer of Scaleway
For the last 3 years I have been working at a self-sustained startup as a DevOps/SRE focusing on global performance improvements, reducing cloud budgets, enhancing architecture, bootstrapping the platform to China in compliance with RGPD and PIPL, security fixes, added CICD pipelines, added K8S, SSO SAML Auth and various other interesting tasks.
I'm a valuable asset if you need someone capable of greatly improving various aspects of your company. I also mentor other developers and love to share knowledge on what I know. I want to keep things clean, simple, and easily expandable for others. I’m capable of taking the smart shortcuts to implement the critical path and unlock the business.
My side projects involve hardware and software, where I create and develop fun stuff such as a self-playing piano, custom-made arcade machines, reverse engineering, restoring cars etc… I have a broad range of interests, and I apply this in my daily life. I'm the guy who gets called when nobody can fix something.
Currently, I am working 80%, but I am open to considering other offers.
Thanks for reading !

After being on a sabbatical for a year, I'm looking forward to get back to work!
With over ten years of experience, I worked mainly frontend/backend at SaaS companies, with an everlasting curiosity to understand the product.
That said, I'm not afraid to learn a new programming language/framework or to dive into the infrastructure.
Problem solving for me does not stop at the code/product, I'm always running into ways to improve the development process or to help fellow peers by mentoring/coaching.
Are you looking for an engineering manager or software engineer, to help your team reach their full potential and deliver high-end quality code/features?
I'm available immediately and looking for a full-time remote, long-term position. Preferably with a company developing a SaaS product in Europe (CET +/- 2 hours).

For the most part, my résumé only has my professional experience on it. To see more of what I've done, please visit my work summary at https://www.amecy.com/work/ . In particular, if you play chess, check out my chess training site at https://www.checkmatechamp.net/ . That site runs on the Google Cloud Platform and uses Python on the backend. The frontend is a mix of vanilla JS and OCaml (using js_of_ocaml).
My experience at startups has helped me learn how to build systems, and how to keep them running, simply and with minimal resources. (For example, as of this writing, Checkmate Champ has been running for 476 days without my intervention.) I also have extensive knowledge of algorithms; in graduate school, I was a teaching assistant for five years, mainly for the algorithms classes.
I have learned a lot of languages over the years that I never got the chance to use in a professional setting, including Lisp, OCaml, Haskell, and Smalltalk. If you are using one of these, I would especially like to hear from you.

1. My name is Philip.
2. I am a senior software engineer at Prime Video.
3. My expertise is in designing scalable, resilient, and usable data pipelining/aggregation services, and sensible interfaces to front them that meet the ever-shifting needs of a growing business.
4. I, along others, have successfully created 3 separate critical services for Prime Video, scaled them to Prime Video scale, and supported (through hiring, skill-development, vision/product development) the scale-out of an organization surrounding these services.
5. I am mission-driven. I have stayed in my current role for 6 years because video streaming has been an exciting, fulfilling product to work on. I’m eager to pour my spirit into refining and executing a great vision.
6. I am convinced that AI will be used to reduce the level of effort required to perform work across all industries, which will in turn increase the rate of experimentation and innovation. I feel compelled to contribute to that story.

I've been doing full-stack webdev in one form or another for a decade and a half now (5 years in industry, 10+ as a hobby), with experience spanning from Fortune 50's to early-stage startups. My two biggest draws are positive-impact roles and unique challenges requiring unconventional solutions, with emphasis on the latter - after a series of product-oriented roles, I'm looking for something a bit off the beaten path.
I also love to code in my spare time! My latest major project is Ectype [0], a "language extension" that brings static types to vanilla JavaScript without requiring code transformation, which I presented [1] at Strange Loop 2023.

I like leading and mentoring people and projects. I've got a lot of history and experience to leverage and I have a lot to give back in fostering good culture and process and cutting out the bullshit that too often creeps in. I've worked on all sorts of crazy platforms and leading edge situations.
I've fixed broken products and teams. I've done lift and shift and not died. I've originated cool stuff from a blank page.
I'm very happy with my home situation (at the beach) and I built a really great home office with sound insulated walls behind a secret bookshelf door with the expectation that the present and future of smart teams is remote-first and maybe AR/voice. Staff Software Engineer (E6) @ Meta chasing a unicorn: part-time remote W2 employment with excellent PPO health insurance.
I have met my FIRE goals except for one thing: health insurance. After extensive research I have concluded that the options available to me as an individual just plain suck and are hardly worth pursuing.
I'm pretty damn good, also: handsome, witty, and humble. While my part-time output will exceed that of a median full-time employee in both quality and quantity, I don't have enough clout at Meta to pull off sanctioned part-time.
I excel at taking a holistic view of and improving existing backend and infra systems.
I would work remotely from the US Central timezone and am authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
Seeking part-time (16-20h/wk) remote (no travel or hybrid) W2 (no 1099 or contract-to-hire) employment with a single (exclusive) employer (no crypto/web3) only.
Remote: No
Willing to relocate: Yes
Visa required: Yes
Technologies: the usual Product stack (Product Requirement docs, UI-UX testing, etc.), design suites (Figma, Photoshop), Python incl. ML libs (sklearn, PyTorch, Keras), analytics (Jupyter notebooks, Pandas) & backend (Django).
Résumé: I am a Product Manager with an ML background (2 M.Sc. from top unis).
3+ year experience as a PM, launched several products from scratch (while coding and designing a good chunk) with clinically-significant results (one leading to a publication in a leading academic journal). Enjoys crafting products, operates fairly easily in start-ups, where everything's ramping up and everyone needs to roll up their sleeves to do a variety of things by themselves. Spent the bulk of my career in life-sci, healthcare-related fields, but due non-compete clauses, I will not be able to operate in such fields for 18 months after current position. Possesses significant first-hand experience in creative/entertainment/live event industries.
Email: tonal.dates.0l [at] icloud [dot] com (professional address hidden; résumé available on demand).
I'm curious and would like to learn and earn challenges.
I have worked a lot in my local communities to create successful non-profit startup. A web radio and archive system; and a co-op management suite for a DIY community space. These are volunteer jobs so I would like to earn money beside so I won't burn out.
Note: It might be guessable but rather I would like to state, for me ethics is quite important when selecting workplace. This limits my potential jobs but I hope that there are good things on this board!

I'm a mechanical engineering student graduating in about 6 months starting the search for post-grad opportunities. I have technical and leadership experience from student engineering teams as well as three internships in different fields (aero eng, material science, software).
I'd love a generalist role where I can make use of my broad skillset by doing a couple of (mechanical, electrical, software). Would also be open to software-only; I've found from my current software engineering internship at NASA that my reasoning developed in other areas translates well to software.
I'm especially interested in biotech, ML (who isn't), early-stage startups where I could make a large impact, and anywhere that's really, truly trying to change the world for the better in some big nigh-impossible way.

I spent the first 15 years of my career building game engines for a living. During that period I've done it all, from streaming, networking, game object models, shaders, simluations, .. you name it. It left me with a knack for good design, optimization, parallel programming, and cpu / memory-awareness. My claim to fame is single-handedly building the game NinJump on iOS / Android back in the early days of mobile gaming. It had over 150 million downloads and hit #1 on iOS.
Several years ago I transitioned to distributed computing, focusing on horizontal scalability. The past few years I've been working mostly in AWS, Golang, and Kubernetes. I've enjoyed the challenge of this transition. I didn't list all my engine cred above as I'm more focused on backend work these days.
Finally, I'm a huge proponent of Rust. I rarely get attached to technology but working in Rust is just a joy. I'm always on the lookout for kickass Rust gigs, especially when they're not crypto-facing.
Just freed up and fielding calls with folks. Cool opportunities welcome! :)

Hi there. I'm a computer graphics technologist with 30+ years of professional experience. I try to mostly find Rust R&D gigs lately (last three years). I also get booked to fill architect or PO roles. If I was looking for a full time role it would be a CTO position.
I'm good with everything around teams and software. I have extensive experience leading people, communicating vision, ideation, design, and everything pertaining to software as a product. I am also professional level CG artist. I have been working in technical VFX production (predomintantly R&D) for 15 years. Then in software dev for VFX for five, then as a manager in geospatial mapping/map rendering for another five years. I've been consulting/freelancing after, since 2020.

I am a motivated software engineer and recent Caltech graduate with a B.S. in Computer Science. With 1.5 years of professional experience, including roles at Lyft and a machine learning startup, I bring a strong foundation in ML software engineering.
Currently seeking new challenges, I am open to diverse software engineering and data science roles. My adaptability and passion for innovation make me a valuable asset to any team.
Eager to contribute my skills and energy to your organization, I welcome the opportunity for further discussion.
2022-2023 Banking backend and data translation on Linux and AIX with C++, awk, sed
2020: CNC machining automation consulting
2007-2020: Machinist with increasing levels of responsibility, focused mostly on prototyping of robotics systems. Started or restarted 3 machine shops, taught hobbyists and early career machinists, some consulting for other shops. Additionally held management positions of increasing responsibility with between 20 and 100 direct or indirect reports.
2002-2006: Two deployments with the US Army. Highest rank, Sergeant. Earned an award for teaching myself how combat communications systems operate, which enabled me to keep our unit on mission with high uptime ( which was outside my specialty/assigned duties). Lead and trained a small team.
2000-2001: Wrote a Windows application in C++ as a contractor.
1999-2000: Rewrote a Windows application that was a DOS application, that managed contract details about individuals ( time off, etc) for an organization with multiple unions. Additionally, supported web dev team by fixing / debugging backend and administered OpenBSD web server.
I have a passion for applications related to manufacturing and a deep interest in numeric / scientific computing and embedded systems. I have deep experience working as a member of a multidisciplinary team ( usually mechanical, electrical, software and manufacturing engineering). I am also very knowledgeable about the formal processes of innovation and new product development.I'd love to introduce myself. I'm Jay! I bring in about 8+ years of loving Python with a startup mindset focusing on different domains. I like the grind with a great team building things that would make us proud!
I have prepped up systems of 50 machines and driven uptime metrics to 99.9% across loads of 3k/sec data intensive API calls on globally available services. There’s some depth of thought to achieving this. I've worked with research-driven teams and bring in a research based thought process to solving scaling/operations.

Like this Ask HN: Recommend employers with positive social impact [https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31518945], I am looking for similar work. I am a European software developer who has lived and worked on four continents. Now it's time to move on and so i am in the process to relocate to Africa.
While i could find a job elsewhere i believe that the experience living in an area where my work is going to have an impact gives me a better understanding of the needs of the location i am serving. Whether it is through direct contact with clients and users or just by being part of a local community and learning about the reality of living there.
I have more than a decade of experience running a company, doing software development, support and training and mentoring adults and students, as well as working on educational projects, and i am willing to take on a mixture of roles as needed to support a project.
I am also open to work for a company anywhere as long as the work can be done fully remote from Africa.
In addition, my plan is to use part of my income to hire local interns and junior developers and train them in order to pass on my experience. If you want to support this, i would love to work with you. Also if you are interested in hiring African developers yourself.

I've been a developer for 14 years, mostly as a full-stack senior software engineer. I've been involved in many industries including Energy, Catering, Education, and E-commerce. Throughout my career I've mostly used C# alongside various front end frameworks like Angular and React.
Remote: Yes. The last 5 years have been "remote only". I'm more productive WFH and will not consider having to buy a car I don't normally need and go back to wasting my time commuting.
Willing to relocate: Not unless you pay me 25MM upfront.
Technologies: I'm not limited by language, frameworks, or clouds, as I helped build several of them for current "bigtech" companies and can ramp up quickly due to my prior experience in contacting and consulting. My total experience spans over 25 years of in the trenches technology, while constantly being updated because its what I love. I used Java last at AMZN, C#/F#/Python/Rust/SQL at MSFT (and more recently with Ruby On Rails thrown in), with Go/Python for both a CLEC I gave MMS capability to as well as some more recent startups, if that helps. Most Current projects are in Rust, Go (Gin), Python (Django), C#, AWS (Lambda, etc)

I only have experience leading engineering organizations with up to 200 engineers, so anything bigger would be new, but I'm up for it, and in that role they offered me the VP promotion I could not accept due to a relocation request that was part of the VP promotion, so I went back to MS and became a lead dev again working in the code when that ended. I have no problem working on smaller teams and honestly think my skills and experience are more valuable to them when I'm in the trenches with the rest of the team.

Hi, I am database reliability engineer who works on all aspects of keeping the databases (100s of them) up and running. I have used configuration management tools like puppet to deploy complex postgresql architectures and have experience with databases as big as 60TB and shards, backup of those shards, upgrades etc.I had a good reputation on not leaving any incident open which arise due to sudden bump in traffic, bugs, system issues etc and ensured minimum or no involvement of app developers in issue resolutions. I help answer queries on postgresql slack and citus slack (basic only). I have experience working in all the timezones in the world across my 14+ years, but for this role I would want to sleep at night unless its an oncall/incident. I have exposure to on prem systems/ bare metals, self managed virtualisation and microservices but using mesos/docker and AWS using theforeman. I have tutorial awareness of AWS and Kubernetes and Ansible, but I read a lot of code and have history of understanding most of the relevant infra stack in a couple of months without any hand holding. If you have read till here, Thank You for listening. I am passionate about postgresql and troubleshooting incidents to root causes.

Bio: I am a C++ Engineer who is passionate about Audio/Video technology and machine learning. At my previous role, I wrote a real-time smart recording app in C++17 that would record H.264/H.265 video from security cameras by detecting changes in the foreground using real-time background subtraction, and then would re-encode the video and upload it to the cloud over an HTTPS connection. In a contractor role before that, I built a topic classification service for that would scale to 100s of thousands of inputs per second on a single GCP e2.mini instance, since the client was very price sensitive.

Resume: https://bit.ly/3B3o65M (It links to my CV repo at Github, pinky promise. You can also visit github.com/<hnusername>.)
I'm not actively looking (hence why my resume link is obfuscated like that) but I'm at least interested in getting a feel for the market right now. That said, I'm willing to consider a position with a great fit for my skill set and career goals.
Here's my pitch: I have experience in a multitude of industries and positions. From improving legacy infra and processes in an established telco company to scaling a fast-moving startup from 200K to 2M users. In my free time, I love writing Code That Is Poetry but day-to-day I am not an idealist engineer who doesn't compromise. Well-engineered code is clean and correct but correct above all else.
Oh, also, I'm great at writing documentation. I consider myself introverted but apparently my communication skills are above average for Software Engineers. I also pride myself on my humility and modesty.
I'd love to explore other technical positions in the games industry short of joining a AAA studio because (a) I don't want to crunch and (b) my skill set does not lay that way; other tech-creative industries would also appeal to me! Another particular interest is in B2C businesses where the 'C' is software developers. I'd love to chat and network about opportunities; if you think you have a product that could benefit from my skill set, drop me a line!

- Built my own high-performance quadcopter flight controller pcb and code from scratch.
See my GitHub [3] and resume [4][5] above for more! I’m looking for a fast-paced environment and don’t mind working on very hard technical projects.

Hello! I'm Lewis Godowski, a creatively-driven lead engineer with over a decade of experience across the Apple ecosystem. Passionate about the little details of good design and a strong advocate for the human-centered design process.
Most recently, I was brought onto a new strategic business unit build to turnaround, manage, and lead an underperforming team of ~10 iOS engineers at a top 3 global motorcycle manufacturer. I had two main responsibilities I needed to balance: doing some heavy lifting as an individual contributor, and more importantly people management (upwards with product stakeholders, laterally with other pods and work streams, and downwards with my team). I identified and reduced inefficiencies in our scrum sprint cycle rituals, and established a standard architecture, code style guide, and best practices document for the client's codebase, resulting in a 28% increase in velocity and allowing us to deliver on schedule for an in-person launch event with 150+ dealerships.
Unfortunately, my current role has been transforming more and more into a business/digital consultant, which means a lot of my time is spent working on slide decks and high-level architectures that never see the light of day. It's bumming me out and taking me away from what I really enjoy: writing code, learning new skills, and wearing multiple hats to solve problems.
Ideally, I'm looking for an iOS (or Vapor, a server-side Swift framework) role as either manager or IC that lets me really flex my Swift and iOS expertise.

I'm on the job market and open to roles in industry/academia! With over six years of experience in applied machine learning, I worked mainly on pipelining machine learning models for search retrieval/ranking (text/image/multimodal), recommender systems, computer vision tasks (object detection, segmentation), and financial AI use-cases (scenario generation of stock portfolios, fraud detection at scale). I am amenable to acquiring proficiency in diverse programming languages/frameworks, and infrastructure (currently learning Rust). My problem-solving aptitude extends beyond coding and product development; I actively seek opportunities to enhance the development process and assist colleagues through mentoring and coaching. If your team requires a machine learning researcher/engineer, data scientist, or research scientist to build production-grade modelling pipeline focussed toward performance optimisation and producing high-quality code and features, I am readily available for a full-time, remote/contract, and long-term roles.

13 years of experience in startup software development and DevOps across web apps, cloud, and Linux networking. Six years of leadership in teams of up to 7 people.
Looking for an engineering manager or senior IC position to mentor your team and make something people want.
Here are a sample of things I've accomplished:
* I built a platform for hosting web applications using Kubernetes at a major cloud provider and taught engineers to operate and improve it. It uses Helm to manage the instances of the single-tenant app and includes a Python application to manage the customer instances based on configuration from the subscription management vendor.
* I trained and mentored a team of developers in software patterns, communication, and prioritizing work, and I reduced context switching in the team’s workflows, leading to a 72% increase in velocity in two months.
* I maintain the community Apt package for Helm, the Kubernetes package manager, which is downloaded more than 200,000 times per month.
* I improved performance of a proprietary VPN by adopting Cython, permitting use of C functions in Python, resulting in a 2.5x increase in network throughput when limited by CPU
* I created a system to control calls in Asterisk with AI-trained voice commands ("hey asterisk, dial extension 1") https://github.com/mattfox/asterisk-voice-control
* In progress- I'm managing a project for getting a B2B SaaS company a SOC 2 Type II report

I am seeking a position as a mid or senior-level front-end engineer. I have 8+ years of experience working at various levels of responsibility as a front-end developer throughout my career. My previous work was as the creator of a thorough visualization of MMA matchups (https://mmabetsharp.com). The work encompassed a large breadth of skills including core front-end work, design, visualization, scraping, data structuring, as well as social media engagement via public discourse and other various channels.
I consider myself a generalist in the front-end space. I have a good knowledge of web technology fundamentals, but I also rather appreciate the higher level tools brought in by the React-era.
I have experience in ecommerce, both as a developer and administrator. I have worked on the development of inventory management tools for online clothing retailers. I have also used the Shopify platform to create a portal to sell woodworking products.
I have enough maturity as a developer to balance the cost of writing maintainable software with the need to write effective software quickly. I understand software is inherently complex, and if neglected, tends to devolve into something very difficult. I also understand businesses and companies, especially smaller ones, operate with limited resources, and that the ability to drive a product forwards can be essential.
I've been thinking about... The nature of complexity in software. How can we apply functional programming concepts to a domain that is largely event-driven and mobilized by effects? How can we reduce excessive "wiring" between components and increase modularity? How can we create a level of abstraction over system components that ensures logical consistency while avoiding excessive overhead? How do we balance the need for "correctness" (typing, tests, refactoring, experimentation) with the need to deliver a product within limited time and resource constraints?
Aside, I also have some experience with physical goods, having created and operated a small woodworking company for 3 years. During the time I received unsolicited praise for the top quality of my work. I apply the same ethic to my programming work.
I value clean design, code consistency, architectural durability, and simplicity whenever possible.
I describe myself as... Easygoing, reliable, flexible, adaptable, and a clear communicator.

Hi. I'm Craig. I'm an experienced Senior Software Engineer, Systems Architect and Microsoft Certified Professional with a passion for software development.
I work primarily, but not exclusively, with Microsoft technologies and the .NET / .NET Core frameworks, leading complex and challenging enterprise software development projects to successfully deliver robust, secure, scalable and efficient software solutions, encompassing over 20 years of experience in the field.
An accomplished team leader, mentor and architect, I'm skilled at taking a leading role in the overall architecture of a project, in driving team developments and employing proven industry disciplines and best-practices to deliver successful software projects that frequently exceed client expectations.
I'm passionate about distributed systems design, CQRS and event sourcing and a proponent of domain-driven design to ensure that solutions are laser-focused on solving real business problems. I'm an open source enthusiast and advocate using the best and most appropriate tools available, providing for an effective and pragmatic solution that delivers genuine and quantifiable business value.
Throughout my career I've helped numerous businesses of varying sizes in varying industries get their technology investment right and I can do the same for you.
Recent projects include:
+ Successfully delivered large section of an ambitious project to re-engineer a number of monolithic applications to cloud-native, event-driven distributed services for a leading hospitality software provider as part of a company-wide effort to modernise entire software estate including training and mentoring staff on event-driven architecture and distributed system design.
+ Successfully designed & delivered large, global SaaS product to manage and automate music royalty collection and payment for one of the UK's largest and most demanding independent music publishers including full cloud geo-distribution & redundancy to ensure high availability & reliability for the worldwide client base.
+ Successfully lead project to develop industry leading anti-motor fraud web application and API with advanced OLAP & OLTP system and data warehouse including one of Europe's largest anti-fraud databases for a Top 40 UK law firm.
+ Successfully lead project to deliver a market-leading, best-of-breed corporate travel management web & desktop-based product suite for a company who, largely as a result of the technology, were later acquired in a multi-million pound deal.
I am a polyglot ICT professional and my resume is formatted as a list of work experience. As an example, for a recent large project I was contracted to analyse a large obfuscated codebase in active development.
The brief: Analyse a JavaScript library which may be subject to legal action.
As the sole developer and data analyst under contract, I determined that the library consisted of about 300k lines of obfuscated code that was in wide use and under active development. After I attempted initial static analysis, I built a tool to capture the library and log its activity whilst it was running (ie. during run-time). The library under investigation actively monitored user activity and resisted simple screen-shot attempts. The capture and logging tool I developed simulated user interaction, scrolled pages, clicked on links and logged all activity including dynamic DOM changes made by the library. The tool also captured Chrome HAR files. I used the source-code for Chrome to discover and address several messaging and logging edge-cases.
The capture and logging tool I wrote in Node.js, used Chrome and puppeteer, and was implemented on AWS EC2 using Docker images I built from scratch, published to, and pulled from AWS ECR. Logs were stored on AWS S3. I deployed the tool across random AWS regions using AWS CloudFormation and bash.
For initial analysis, I generated Graphviz maps using Python with thousands of nodes and edges showing the URL calls being used and their relationships. I conducted in-depth analysis of over a TB of logging data with customised de-obfuscation tools that I built to use abstract syntax tree filters to generate names using four letter English words to enable the tracking of function and variable names. I mapped function calls, reverse engineered and mapped (mostly undocumented) Chrome HAR files. I also traced variable values across the codebase, dynamically inserting debugging statements during run-time.
Customised versions of the library were also injected at run-time to discover further interactions of the codebase with other "cooperating" libraries. I also mapped the evolution of the library codebase itself using git, by creating commits for each discovered and de-obfuscated version. I used PHP to download historic versions of the codebase from archive.org. I traced and documented small and large changes.
I documented the entire project, under the expectation of showing evidence in court.

I have a technical background and am experiencing hardship in Austin. See my post in another thread <https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38496624>
To be concrete with my request: if you know literally anyone with any kind of business in Austin that claims to be unable to fill an opening please have them contact me at [email protected]. I am a capable programmer, but I don't even mean jobs in the tech sector. I mean anything. I need to be able to pay rent at the end of this month. Empirically I know that I can survive (but not thrive) even if I'm only bringing in $250 per week, with $20 per week being groceries, and the rest going towards rent and incidental expenses like bus fare, mobile plan, and so on. I will even let you (or them) audit every one of my purchases if you want.
The caveat, obviously, being that I don't have a car to drive. I can state that in the 5 years since the accident, I've literally never been late. I will do what it takes to get there and will not overpromise. Places within a mile or two of the major thoroughfare (Lamar) and its busline are doable, whereas places "in Austin" but not actually in Austin are basically unworkable because there's no way for me to get there outside of pricey rideshares, which I can't afford in my current circumstances.
I have $125.98 in my bank account, $23 in my wallet, $1.29 in loose change, and 50000 Korean won. I do not have a support network I can rely on for help.
If you yourself are in Austin and want to vet me, I will personally handle your household chores. I will literally do meal prep and buy groceries and do your laundry, etc.
To give an example of the sorts of jobs I'm being ghosted on: <https://austin.craigslist.org/fbh/d/austin-shipping-receivin...>: "(Baking/cookie company) is adding to our shipping and delivery team! Job duties include picking, packing and boxing orders" "Shifts are Tuesday - Saturday 6:00AM to 2:00PM, though overtime will be needed during busy times". This is a full-time job that I'm more than willing to do despite what it would mean for appearances. It would provide me more money than I've made in years.

I've been working for the last 3 years on an in-memory MVCC DB engine in C++, built from scratch. The engine incorporates several innovative design features. It has completely nonblocking transaction open and commit; incremental, concurrent, and nonblocking GC; and direct shared-memory access to data from client processes with zero-copy reads. All critical paths are lock-free and some are wait-free (e.g., transaction validation). Scalability is a work in progress but single-thread update throughput is ~5M TPS. I've also designed and partially implemented a high-level API over this database to expose transactional programming to C++ developers who would never normally use a database: https://senderista.github.io/atomik-website/.
Before starting this project, I worked on a distributed analytical database, supporting multiple scientific users:
https://myria.cs.washington.edu/
https://github.com/uwescience/myria
https://homes.cs.washington.edu/~magda/papers/wang-cidr17.pd...
I'm most interested in developing high-performance database engines in low-level languages, but open to any challenging systems programming project. I've been working in C++ for the last 3 years, but have written nontrivial projects in Rust and Java as well (e.g., https://github.com/senderista/rotated-array-set, https://github.com/senderista/hashtable-benchmarks). I would enjoy using Rust or Zig on a new project, but I consider the project itself to be much more important than the language it's written in. I am not interested in cryptocurrency, adtech, or fintech projects.

Meant to ask if such a long list of skills is genuine for 2 years of experience; not to make him feel bad, but that's what people hiring will also think.
It might be that he's exceptionally smart, or that he did much more then the 3 projects described, but would be good to justify and/or specifiy skillevel per langauge better.
