Reuters says "S&P 500 chief executives made $16.7 million on average in 2022". Considering that a bad CEO can destroy billions of dollars of market cap, I don't think this pay is unreasonable. Average NBA pay was $9.5 Million https://www.statista.com/statistics/1120680/annual-salaries-..., and I think a CEO's job is more important and should be paid more. In general, CEO pay should be determined by shareholders and not outsiders.
CEO pay vs. that of the median worker is a silly metric. It's not clear that the CEO of an investment bank should be paid much more than that of a fast food chain. Investment banks don't pay better because their CEOs are more generous.
