I wouldn't suggest that joining a crunch-mode kind of company like Twitter is a great work-life balance for everybody, but at least they're being pretty honest that they're in kind of a survival mode situation and need all-hands to buy into some hard work.
The worst situation to be in is a company that's faking being friendly. They buy ping-pong tables and video game consoles to decorate their offices and show off how cool and hip they are, but it's frowned on to ever try and use them even for a 15 minute break. And there's no break areas to take a decent rest in during the expected crunch times anyway: at least Twitter is providing something.
