What other people think about me and my opinions. Fun fact: You’ll be surprised to know that there are incredibly few people who think about you as much you would like them to.

How did you develop this mindset?

You have no control over how people think of you. Let that go.

The looming certainty that our species is pretty fucked, lol, and there's not a thing anyone can do about it. But, hey, other species have come and gone, and we will too. It's not the end of the world. Just us.

Funny thing is, I consider myself a generally happy person. I think once you accept the doom and gloom, it's almost kinda liberating. Like why worry about something that's unavoidable and out of your control anyway? Some amount of detachment from the future can be healthy...

Also, microbes. We're teeming with them and their poop. Gazillions of little creatures living on and in us. You never have to feel lonely!

Here's a partial list (in no particular order): social media, people who criticize just for the sake of criticizing, people who tell me that my choices are wrong, other peoples' opinions of me, as much negativity (in all spheres) as possible, people who just don't seem to be able to enjoy something or let someone else enjoy that something even if they don't.

My rule of thumb is whether the person being negative can be convinced otherwise. If they can't, then don't spend any energy engaging them. There are some misunderstandings, and some who purposely misunderstand and it's important to tell the difference.

The phone - it's the largest source of interruptions there are. I almost never answer it, unless I know who's calling.

The news. I genuinely don’t want to know what horrifying things are going on in the world.

I ignored the news for many years and only started paying attention with Covid.

I then found myself needing to intentionally seek out positive/uplifting/good news or my mental state would suffer.

Now that governments largely consider the pandemic "over", the news had once again become empty and devoid of anything interesting to me. Maybe it's time to give it up again.

People who (implicitly) say "you better do X or care about Y or else bad things will happen!!111!"

it's like: what's going to happen? Am I going to spontaneously combust if I just ignore you?
